Neurodivergence
Some work under a different operating system.
Neurodivergence isn’t a malfunction – it’s a different way your brain and nervous system process the world.
Variations like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, and others aren’t deficits to fix. They are neurological differences that come with distinct strengths, challenges, and sensory experiences. Think of it like a different nervous system processing system.
What neurotypical bodies register as neutral – fluorescent lighting, sudden schedule changes, open-plan offices, a casual criticism – your system may experience as overwhelming, threatening, or physically painful.

It’s life in a world not built for you.
Neurodivergent people often experience the world with more intensity and less filtering. If you’re autistic, you might struggle with interoception (reading your body’s internal signals like hunger or fatigue), yet you feel emotions with overwhelming intensity.
You might be refreshingly direct and honest, while simultaneously finding unspoken social rules baffling and exhausting. Your brain processes details first – analyzing textures, sounds, patterns – before grasping the bigger picture, which requires immense cognitive energy. Over time, these constant micro-adjustments and the demand to “keep up” can lead to autistic burnout, resulting in a state of profound depletion that extends far beyond ordinary tiredness.
If you have ADHD, you might live in paradoxes: unable to start a task your brain finds boring, then unable to stop when you’re hyperfocused on something interesting. You might be socially intuitive yet prone to rejection sensitivity, creative and quick-thinking yet struggling with executive function.
ADHD brains are often highly creative, exceptional at problem-solving under pressure, and wired for novelty and exploration – strengths that get pathologized in systems that value compliance and consistency.
Therapy provides Neuro-Affirming care.
Here’s what neuro-affirming therapy is not: trying to make you more “normal,” teaching you to mask better, or treating your neurodivergence as something broken. Your differences don’t need to be fixed. They need to be understood, supported, and worked with – not against.
In neuro-affirming care, we collaborate to understand your unique nervous system, honor your strengths and challenges, and develop sustainable strategies that align with your individual wiring. We work on interoception – learning to recognize and trust your body’s signals.
We explore sensory needs and nervous system regulation without judgment and acknowledge that masking and camouflaging – constantly performing neurotypicality – isn’t just exhausting; it’s also detrimental. It’s traumatic. Research shows it leads to burnout, isolation, loss of identity, and significantly higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidality.
The work here is about self-acceptance and nervous system literacy. It’s learning that needing more rest isn’t a sign of laziness, stimming isn’t shameful, and your way of processing isn’t wrong – it’s just different. It’s about developing compassion for your particular operating system and finding tools, accommodations, and environments where you can truly thrive, rather than survive. You deserve support that meets you where you are, not where others think you should be.

There is nothing wrong with how your mind works.
Living in a world not designed for neurodivergent nervous systems can be exhausting. Therapy can support self understanding, regulation, and ways of navigating life that honor your strengths and needs.
